Sapa is breath taking!!!! The mountains are super spectacular - and the quaint little city is just a lovely spot to spend a few days relaxing, drinking coffee and mixing with the locals. Sapa has very much cashed in on the fact that they are one of the only places left in South East Asia to see local people in their traditional dress - going about their daily lives - yet with a capitalist slant - or as a performance - for the tourist!!! But it is still worth the visit and is a beautiful place to see and the people are lovely too.
Our mate from the hotel in Hanoi - hooked up a great deal for us to go out to Sapa for a few nights including two day treks and all food, travel and accommodation. We had a great time, rubbing shoulders with the locals and trying new foods and drinks.
indigo - or the plant the dye comes from anyway!! |
Tiers and tiers of rice, growing on the sides of mountains - must be hard work to plough, plant and maintain these crops and even harder to harvest. But they look amazing from the tops of the hills.
These ladies in traditional dress spend their days following us tourists around and offering garments and trinkets they have made or acquired for sale - they are very friendly and a bit pushy but you can't help but love them - they are so beautiful and always happy.
Th woman above with the red headdress belongs to the Zao (i think) people. She was my favourite, I like their jewellery and dresses.
From the balcony out the front of our hotel room - spectacular!!!!
