Hanoi was a lovely city to wander around in, stop for a coffee during the day and by night stop for a Beer Hoi - and sit on the side of the busy streets, watching the people go by and traffic speeding past.
We stayed in the Old Quater - which was a great place to sneak about and gave easy access to a lot of tourist info and local sites, such as the lake, the drinking streets, market shopping and restaurants.
From Hanoi we took two trips - the first to Sapa for 3 days two nights and then on returning to Hanoi we headed to Halong Bay and Cat Ba Island for a few nights.
In the lake there is a tortoise - a massive tortoise!!!! Ann and I were lucky enough to spot the huge thing - it is said to be 600yrs old - but apparently some scientists have dated it to be close to 100yrs old.
we went and checked out the ethnographic museum in Hanoi - it was well worth the visit - so much info on the tribal lives of the Vietnamese and where each group came from.
We also checked out the Fine Arts Museum - it was really enjoyable - so much art!!!! We really liked these statues (above) they are a bit bigger than life size and really a bit eerie and creepy.
Cheese on a stick - the best yumm yumms this side of the street - best enjoyed with Beer Hoi!!!
