Langkawi - Malaysia 24/08/12- 28/08/12

Langkawi island is located just north of Penang and Pangkor on the west side of Malaysia - it is a nice, relaxing island that still has a lot of jungle and unspoilt wilderness. We stayed in Zackry's Guest house - a quaint little place where creature comforts are   , where we met some really nice people and locals who we spent days with exploring the island and having fun at night eating yummy food and drinking cheap beers.

Rainy day - watching the ducks

main beach of Langkawi

The waterfall we went to in Langkawi was awesome - John got a massage from the downpour and nearly lost his shorts.

 There's a storm coming......

Run..... get back to the carrrrrrr.....

the lost pool at Ed and Chris's hotel
we had the best dinner - picked our own fish and squid

One of the days after the rain, we hired a van with the gang from Zackry's - Zam (the driver) works at Zackry's and loves to hangout and have fun, he took us around, got us discount entries and made it a great day!!!!

Ann and Petra - up on the mountain top

One night in the hostle , it was late and we heard a splashing in the little pond behind the common area, we noticed that one of the ducks was being dragged under the water, and to our shock saw a massive python coiled around it, most everyone screamed and were scared and moved away ... we thought it was great, real life nature show right there, so we helped the hostel owners to catch it with a makeshift noose (rope pulled through a plastic tube) it was really exciting!! We stuffed it in a bag or 3 and then tied it up as tight as possible. They said they would take it to the snake sanctuary tomorrow, but in the morning - it was gone. Little holes in the bag had shown us how it had found it's way out ...

So we woke and found the snake bag empty.... John was sitting having his breakfast when he saw the snake pop it's head up in the pond and take a breathe. Alarms sounded and the owners re-rigged up and snake catching contraption.

John was on snake watch in the rain for the two hours before we had to head to the airport to go on to our next destination................ To find out where Ann and John head next stay tuned for the next update!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Ohhh M Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I would have left - I'd have said to the owner "It's the snake or me - one of us has to leave!". I'd have called for a chopper and left. No 2 ways about it. I'm outta here. I feel icky.

Loving the adventure! Very jealous xx
