We woke early on our first morning in Jogja to catch a ride to Borobudor Buddhist temple to see the sunrise. This was a nice experience, mostly because we paid a bit extra to beat the crowd and get to see the whole temple before everyone else arrived and our guide was well informed about the ancient structure. After Borobudor we headed to the mountians to see Merapi, a volcano which had caused a lot of devestation a few years earlier killing around 400 Indonesians. Then we headed to a Hindu temple called Prambanan - which was the same place we revisited the following night to watch the Ramayana Ballet. On that same day, we visited Solo where we went to a Batik art museum and factory, it was nice to see the history behind Batik - from this area's perspective - and also on the hands at work behind the scene.
