Vang Vieng 1st-4th Oct

On the way to Vang Vieng the scenery was amazing, We headed south from Luang Prabang over and around some massive hills and mountains toward Vang Vieng.

Vang Vieng is on the tourist map because it has the famous tubing activities - this involves getting absolutely drunk and floating down the river back to town via a few riverside bars and crazy activities - BUT - things have changed. . . Various countries have become concerned for the welfare of their drunken natives and voiced this concern insisting that things change. Fair enough - but tourists should take some responsibility for themselves and not get so out-of-control. Anyway, so the tubing has been slowing down a bit now - all the bars have been removed or burnt down and it seems like the locals are cleaning things up and possibly making it a bit more safe.

toilet stop!

Vang Vieng - the view from the Mesah View Guest House where we stayed. Run by Loay and his nice young family - who are very happy to help you in your travel options with some good advice.

We went for a swim in the river to cool off.

Day trip kayaking and cave tubing with Amando and Colm was great fun - First we went for a little hike up to the cave tubing place and then had a nice lunch of fried rice and chicken kebabs then we headed 17km done the river kayaking. We sank our kayak a few times because there were a few holes in the old thing - The guides filled the holes with scrunched up leaves but it didn't take long until enough water seeped through and we began to topple.

Preparing to enter the cave on our tubes. We floated along on a rubber tube in the dark holding onto a rope. We don't have many pictures for obvious reasons.......

Later in the evenings the fun starts at the bars - Collywobbles doesn't like the creepy crawlies - which is ironic as he definitely knows how to creep.

<-------Colm would jump, yelp, and slap himself silly if an insect landed on him - better still, you could pretend there was one on his head and he would go absolutely mental...

But he can play pool like a champion!!!!

Vang Vieng is one of the most picturesque places we have ever visited - check out the great pics!!!!
